swimsafer programme

The SwimSafer programme is structured into six progressive stages, each designed to develop water confidence, swimming competency, water safety awareness, and survival skills. The programme follows a systematic approach, ensuring that students build upon previously acquired skills as they advance through each level.

Stage 1: Introduction to Water Skills
Students develop confidence in the water while learning essential skills such as floating, basic movement, and fundamental water safety practices.

Stage 2: Fundamental Water Skills
Focuses on improving movement in the water through basic propulsion techniques, breathing control, and increased water confidence.

Stage 3: Personal Water Survival and Stroke Development
Introduces personal survival skills, including floating, treading water, and self-rescue techniques, while further developing swimming strokes and endurance.

Stage 4: Bronze – Stroke Improvement and Rescue Skills
Students refine their freestyle, backstroke, and breaststroke techniques while learning basic rescue principles and survival skills. The stage culminates in the ability to swim 100 metres continuously.

Stage 5: Silver – Intermediate Stroke Refinement
Emphasises stroke efficiency, endurance, and diving fundamentals. Students continue to strengthen their swimming proficiency with a target of swimming 200 metres continuously.

Stage 6: Gold – Advanced Survival and Swimming Proficiency
The highest level of the programme, focusing on advanced swimming techniques, water survival, and rescue competencies. Students are expected to swim 400 metres efficiently while demonstrating advanced water safety and survival skills.

By progressing through all six stages, students gain the knowledge, confidence, and practical skills necessary to become competent swimmers and responsible water users.
